About Bucket Hoods
Bucket Hoods was founded and is run by two brothers born and raised in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We grew up playing hockey and have spent our lives around the game. We are avid skiers too, so we know how quickly good equipment gets knocked around between uses.
Born from an old hoodie
The first Bucket Hood began with a simple experiment: Ben cut the hood off an old hoodie and sewed the bottom closed. The result was a soft cover that fit around a hockey helmet, closed with the original drawstrings, and was easy enough to use every time the helmet went back in the bag.
That homemade proof of concept became the starting point for the product we sell today. Ben worked closely with a manufacturer through multiple rounds of prototypes and revisions, refining the fit, shape, and construction into a purpose-built hockey helmet cover.
It is an original Bucket Hoods design, developed from that first hand-sewn prototype—not an existing catalogue product with our logo added.
Armour for your armour
A hockey helmet spends plenty of time sharing a bag with skates, buckles, tape, tools, and loose hardware. Those hard edges can rub against the shell, visor, cage, and fittings during storage and travel.
The Bucket Hood adds a soft fabric barrier between your helmet and everything around it. Slide the helmet visor-first into the cover, draw the opening shut, and give your bucket a proper place in the bag.
Simple enough to become part of the ritual
No bulky hard case. No elaborate packing system. Just a familiar shape rebuilt for the rink: drop the helmet in, draw it shut, and throw it in the bag.

Protection without the theatre
A Bucket Hood is not protective equipment and is not intended to be worn during play. It will not make a damaged helmet safe or replace the care instructions provided by a helmet or visor manufacturer. Its job is much simpler: help keep a stored helmet and visor separated from the hard, dirty gear around them.
